Report on ICICH co-organized panel on Rural Landscapes

As part of World Heritage Day celebrations, ICICH, Sanrakshan Heritage Consultants Pvt. Ltd., and VIRASAT organized a panel discussion entitled “Rural Landscapes: A Paradigm for Heritage” in Jammu, India, on 19 April 2019. The panel focused on the States of Jammu and Kashmir and brought together multiple sectors, including representatives from rural communities, to begin collaboration on a document that can help inform new policies focused on the identification, documentation, promotion, education, and management of rural landscapes. Munish Pandit, Vice President of ICICH was among the event’s participants.

Oral Storytelling Tradition Seminar in Ljungby, Sweden

Join the Festival for a seminar in The Land of Legends on 13 and 14 June 2019 in Ljungby, Sweden.

The Storytelling Festival of Ljungby in Sweden is the oldest annual storytelling festival in the Nordic countries. Since 1990, storytellers, folklorists, and story-lovers have met here to share stories, and discuss topics related to transmission and safeguarding of oral tradition. This year, special attention will be given to that the Land of Legends was adopted to the UNESCO Register of Good Safeguarding Practice under the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage during the UNESCO committee meeting in November 2018. Therefore we would like to invite you to join us for a two-day seminar on the topic Oral Storytelling Tradition.

Each year, just before midsummer, Ljungby Storytelling Festival takes place. This year, the dates are set to June 13 to June 16. For four days, The Land of Legends will be filled with storytelling, music, workshops and lectures. During the festival, there is an easy to follow “English track” – where performances are held in English.

The Cultural Landscape Association (CLA) is a non-profit organization specialized in the area of Cultural Landscape and the only institution in Iran that focuses on cultural landscapes interdisciplinary. The Association’s mission is to strengthen the role of cultural landscape in sustainable development in Iran and the region, by building the capacity of all those professionals and bodies involved with cultural landscape recognition, protection, conservation and management in the region, through training, research, the dissemination of information and network building.

ICOMOS members work towards setting the foundations of the Pasifika Charter

Susan McIntyre-Tamwoy reports that a number of ICOMOS members are currently in Levuka Fiji at a workshop with ICOMOS Pasifika members helping to develop a draft heritage charter for Pasifika. This workshop is a side event of the “Culture: Conserving it Together” conference jointly organised by ICOMOS Australia, ICOMOS Pasifika and ICOMOS New Zealand in Suva Fiji. There are so many overlaps with ICH in many of the discussions that members may like to watch out for the reports that come from these various meetings.
