Co-organized by ICOMOS Germany To ensure the implementation of the World Heritage Convention by enhancing knowledge and increasing awareness within civil society is both a continuous task and a challenge. Therefore, the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior, the Institute for Industrial Archaeology and History of Science and Technology (TU Bergakademie Freiberg), the German Commission for UNESCO, ICOMOS Germany and the Institute Heritage Studies Berlin the exchange of World Heritage experts and civil society initiated in 2016 with the international follow-up conference “World Heritage: Places for Building Capacities and Lifelong Learning in Europe” on 9 November 2018 at the “denkmal – Europe´s Leading Trade Fair for Conservation, Restoration and Old Building Renovation” in Leipzig, Germany. One focus of the conference is to discuss the importance of the topic “World Heritage” in schools and to illustrate the possibilities to anchor the topic in school curricula. The second focus highlights the significance of World Heritage and World Heritage sites for vocational education and training. Aiming to make World Heritage a constituent element of “lifelong learning”, this conference addresses World Heritage professionals, monument conservators, restorers and crafts people as well as teachers, and develops ideas for hands-on interpretation activities. Communicating World Heritage in theory and practice to all generations means preparing the topic for schools and vocational training, and understanding and using World Heritage sites as places for learning and capacity-building. Information on registration and the conference programme will be provided in due time. See attachment for more details and programme.
