Day 3: Nigeria’s Heritage: the Past, Present and the Future

October 1st is undoubtedly an important day to Nigeria both within and in the diaspora. As the
day that engenders lots of reflections on the journey of Nigeria. The heritage sector of Nigeria
plays a vital role in furthering the reflections and reminding people of the landmark events and
experiences of the country. Nigeria’s heritage has experienced a series of development not
limited to heritage administration space but also policy, interventions, research and many
more.

The focus for the day is on reflecting on the past of Nigeria heritage as it concerns social,
economic, environmental and cultural development to illuminate the presents and strategize
for the future of Nigeria. The discussion will largely align to how Nigeria’s heritage can be
leveraged for the attainment of goals and aspirations of National Development Plan (Vision 20:
2020), AU Agenda 2063: the Africa we want and the United Nations Sustainable Development
Goals.
